The Cub Scout helps the pack go.
The pack helps the Cub Scout grow.
The Cub Scout gives goodwill.

The Cub Scout Motto

Cub Scout Pack 35 is chartered by the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5868, Laguna Beach.   We have our meetings at the Laguna Presbyterian Church in Laguna Beach, California.  We are part of the El Camino Real District in the Orange County Council, Boy Scouts of America. We are a Family Pack  open to girls and boys ages 5 to 10 years old (Grades K to 5.)

A highly active and progressive group, Pack 35 draws members from both Laguna Beach and surrounding cities.  Our leaders have a combined experience of nearly 50 years as Scouting volunteers and have been trained and recognized for volunteer service at Scouting's highest levels.

What do Cub Scouts in Pack 35 do?  Just about everything from A to Z--that is archery to zip line! And in between we do BB gun shooting, biking, boating and sailing, climbing, exploring nature, fishing, map and compass, photography, tomahawk throwing,  sports, and video games, just to name a few!

What more will your 5 to 10 year old get out of joining Pack 35?  Cub Scouting's all important life lessons, which are part of every activity we do  The "rules" in Cub Scouting are the Cub Scout Oath and Law of the Pack (see below).  Besides the physical activities above, Cub Scouts also cooperate on projects and badges that teach them citizenship, duty to family, and a love of the natural world.

Camping and outdoor activities are a big part of Pack 35's program, with overnight programs happening at least 4 times per year.  Our destinations are usually within 1 to 2 hours drive and are among the finest Scouting and non-Scouting facilities in southern California.

You can tell we're pretty fired up about helping young people have a great time while growing up to be responsible, honorable adults.  If you'd like to learn more about Pack 35, email one of our leaders, or visit one of our monthly pack meetings on the fourth Tuesday of the month (September through May) at 6:30 PM at Laguna Presbyterian Church in beautiful downtown Laguna Beach!

Pack Dues should be paid by November 15

Posted on Oct 15 2022 - 9:48pm

We have started our rechartering (reenrollment) for Jan to Dec 2023 Membership.   The dues amount is $200 for the emmbers who are currently registered in the  Pack.  This fee covers the national and council registration for Jan to Dec 2023.    A portion also stays in the pack to pay for the pack meetings and rank badges and achievement badges.     This does not cover camping events or any other event that will have a separate fee.        As in prior years, we can provide assistance with paying the dues if a family will find the payment a hardship.    Some of the adults leaders donate to pay the fees of a youth member.  Our wonderful chartered organization, VFW, will also provide assistance. A parent should not hesitate to ask Cubmaster LIndsey or me if the family needs assistance.    Assistance will be confidential between Mr. Lindsey, Mrs. Jensen and the parent (s)of the youth.   The youth member will not be told.

New California Law for Youth Service Organizations

Posted on Feb 5 2022 - 10:55pm

AB506 is a shorthand reference to a new California law aimed at ‘Youth Service Organizations.’ It outlines requirements related to training, background checks and policies.   The Boy Scouts of America has required Youth Protection Training of its volunteers for decades,   The BSA developed the training program and updates it periodically.  That requirement will continue to be in place.   To be in compliance with the new California law, the BSA has set up a website specifically for volunteers registered through California based BSA councils.   Here is the link to the home page of that website:  https://californiascouting.org/   You can find information about the new law on this home page.

New Chartered Organization and Journey to Excellence Award Results

Posted on Jan 1 2022 - 10:50pm

Happy New Year to all our scouts and families.   I am pleased to say that all the rechartering paperwork was submitted this past week.     The Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5868 is our new chartered organization.   We will continue to meet at Laguna Presbyterian Church for our meetings.     Thank you to all the parents for sending in the dues.   I still have a few to collect, but we are on track for 2022!   We ended 2021 strong as we earned the GOLD STATUS for the Journey to Excellence!

National, OCBSA and Local Fees will be collected at Pack meeting on Tuesday, Dec 14.

Posted on Dec 11 2021 - 11:58pm

Cubmaster Lindsey and I are pleased with our new members.  As you recall at several of our meetings, I mentioned that the Pack has to pay fees to National and Orange County Council (OCBSA) to be able to use the program for our Cub Scout requirements.    We also collect fees to help pay for the awards and pack meeting programs.   The total amount due for each youth member is $200 for calendar year 2022.      Some of you have already paid the National and OCBSA fees if you joined on line in October or November, but you will still owe a $50 fee for the Pack.     If you joined in June to September, you only paid the National and OCBSA fees for 2021.     At the Pack meeting on Tuesday, Dec 14, I will have the information about who still owes these fees.   I will collect checks and cash if you want to pay that way.   Checks should be made payable to Pack 35.  I also have a venmo account if you would like to pay that way.    This is just a gentle reminder that we will have to collect this fees for 2022.    Contact me if you need more information about this.

A New Chartered Organization for Troop 35 B and G and Pack 35 in 2022

Posted on Dec 5 2021 - 12:02am
Laguna Beach Post 5868 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars will be the new Chartered Organization for Troop 35 B and G and Pack 35 starting in 2022.     The Session at Laguna Presbyterian Church declined to continue to charter us given the concerns various national religious organizations have in regard to litigation involving Scouts BSA.   The Church will continue to allow us to use the church facilities without any charge so nothing changes in our meeting place.
